Essential oils are plant concentrates that are anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-septic, anti-bacteria and mood uplifting. They are very beneficial to our skin and our health in general. The commonest uses of essential oils are:
For aromatherapy: essential oils have tremendous effects on our moods and help to elevate moods and to combat anxiety, stress and depression. To benefit, add a few drops to oil burners, diffusers and even hot water to inhale its aroma.
For massages: By combining essential oils with carrier oils for different massages, they help relief stress, pain and aches.
For foot soak: Stressed out from the hustle and bustle of life, then soak your feet in warm water and add a few drops of essential oils and Dead Sea salt.
For herbal teas: Not all essential oils are edible but some like peppermint oil is. Peppermint oil relives aches, pain, stress, cold and flu symptoms so add a drop or 2 to hot or warm water and sip. By inhaling the aroma while drinking, you benefit both ways as it opens one’s nasal passage.
For face steaming: Remove dead cells by steaming your face over hot water by adding a few drops of lavender oil, orange oil or any essential oil of your choice and steaming for 15-20 minutes.
Rosehip essential oil rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, lycopene and beta carotene, is known by many for its anti-acne and anti-aging properties. Beyond that, this hydrating oil gives the skin moisture combined with its collagen boosting power to help your cells to regenerate as such fantastic for fighting wrinkles. Rosehip essential oil also reliefs back pain and arthritis because it is anti-inflammatory. It’s used in the treatment of ulcer, diabetes, constipation, urinary track infection, amongst others. PLS DO NOT INGEST THIS OIL. Rosehip oil is available in ingestible capsules while the oil can be added to carrier oils, organic butters and lotions to be applied topically.
Lemon essential oil is an aromatic oil used in aromatherapy. With its invigorating and exciting scent, lemon oil is known to possess anti-viral properties as well as relieve stress as such is used in relieving anxiety. It also enhances one’s mood and has a calming effect on the body. To benefit, use lemon essential oil as a diffuser or vaporizer. You can also add a few drops on a handkerchief and inhale. To use lemon oil for deep tissue massage, add a few drops to butters or oils and massage to the skin. You feel your stress melt away. Lemon oil is also known to treat acne and dark spots and while it is not advised to apply directly to the skin, you can add it to carrier oils before applying to the skin. Pls DO NOT INJEST lemon essential oil and do remember not to use it during the day if your skin will be exposed to the sun as it can cause conditions like sunburn due to the fact that lemon oil makes the skin sensitive to ultraviolet light. When used in skincare products for day use, lemon essential oil is accompanied by sunscreen.
