Herbs and spices in your first aid box

Hi guys,

I am sure you might be wondering why I would say herbs and spices in the first aid box; well, I do not mean that literally. Rather, this post is focusing on herbs and spices that serve as first aid in time when you cannot get to your doctor or pharmacist.

These are the herbs, spices or condiments I keep in my kitchen cabinet just in case, a health need comes up when I can’t get to my doctor or pharmacy. I will address them one after the order.

Cinnamon: Treatment for constipation, bloating & gas

All three – constipation, bloating and gas do disturb me a lot at night; the chief culprit being gas. While most people reach out for antacid, I always go for cinnamon. Cinnamon is a spice that I use in cooking and baking but fantastic in treating gas, acid reflux, bloating and constipation. No wonder, cinnamon has been known to reduce stomach fat.

How to take cinnamon:

Take half a tea spoon of cinnamon powder, pour into half glass of warm water, add a table spoon of honey, mix and drink. Not only will you belch out the gas, you will get relief in minutes.

Garlic cure for skin infections & cold

Garlic is useful in treating skin infections like rash, eczema and ring worm. Garlic is a natural anti biotic so take half a teaspoon of garlic powder, amount depends on the area of skin that needs treating; add some warm water – warm water helps garlic to infuse better. Once the garlic paste is soft and creamy, apply on to skin.

As cold remedy, pour half teaspoon of garlic powder into warm water, add a teaspoon of honey, stir and drink.

Ginger + honey cure for cold Much like garlic and honey, ginger and honey make great cure for not just cold but cough as well. To clear blocked nose, flu and cough, take half teaspoon of ginger mixed with a teaspoon of honey in a glass of warm water. Stir and drink while warm.

Turmeric for pimples and cough; & Black pepper for cough

Turmeric powder is a great astringent for ridding pimples and skin impurities. Just mix turmeric powder in water by creating a paste, use as scrub and rinse out.

For cough, take three pinches of turmeric powder, same amount of black pepper, half teaspoon of honey, add just a small amount of warm water, stir and drink. You will get instant relief!

Honey

No home should be without honey. Honey makes a good mask; taken alone or with the herbs above, effectively treats cold and cough. Honey also heals dry skin.

So, if you want instant relief from cold, flu, cough, skin infection like rash, eczema or ring worm; as well as relief from constipation, bloating, acid reflux and gas, give these natural remedies a try.
