Thanks for reading my blog posts; and I am sorry that my December posts came late; been so exhausted. Well, this month, my theme for the blog’s monthly magazine is A Luxury Christmas because I want everyone to take time out to pamper themselves by looking gorgeous and nurturing their beauty.
Here are the posts already published:

Get the mature look
I am blogging again about mature makeup because I worry when mature women makeup like teenagers or young girls by wearing multiple eye colour makeup that is tacky, cheap and childish and does little for one’s personality. Mature does not mean old and outdated; rather, mature is sophisticated, classy, clean and glamorous.
Mature makeup should be age appropriate, clean, simple and elegant. By adopting this, one actually looks much younger and youthful. When you apply makeup like a young person, you actually look older as it presents to people that you are trying way too much to look young.
Here is my guide to a sophisticated classy, elegant and glamorous makeup:
– Keep it simple
– Try as much as possible to keep your eye makeup one tone
– Go easy on shimmer makeup as it emphasizes wrinkles
– Less is more
I wore this makeup today to my kids’ school PTA Christmas party. It is a very simple makeup that is mature, sophisticated and classy.
For this look, I wore:
Flori Roberts concealer under my eyes
Flori Roberts foundation
Flori Roberts pressed powder
Flori Roberts bronzer, which I applied on my forehead, cheek bones, tip of my nose, and chin (that is my T zones) for highlights.
I used Flori Roberts brandy blush and Mary Kay Fire cracker lipstick.
On my eyes, I used a soft shade of brown charcoal eyeshadow while I smudged Flori Roberts smudge eye liner on my eyes. I highlighted my brow bones with a soft shade of bronze shimmer eye shadow.
Go on, be youthful by embracing the mature, elegant look!
So, Christmas is here again; and we expect office End-of-year parties as well. When the year winds down, work schedules go up as companies rush to meet annual goals and targets; so certainly, your work load goes up as well. In the midst of this, is the office party you might not be ready for.
But do not worry. You do not need to pack a specialty makeup bag for the office party as you can comfortably go from day to night with this makeup tip. Here is what you need:
Luminous foundation alone – buy Mary Kay Timewise luminous foundation
A simple creamy, moisturizing lipstick. For this example, I used Mary Kay ginger bread lipstick
Blush – you can carry one or use same lipstick as blush
This makeup tip is simple and quick. Just go into the rest room, wash the stress off your face, allow to dry and moisturize your face.
Begin by applying concealer under your eyes
Then apply luminous foundation on your face. You do not need any powder what so ever. The luminous foundation gives a sheer finish that is great for a night out.
And then, apply your lipstick on your eye lids as cream eye shadow. Or you could pack regular eye shadow if you like.
Line the upper lash line with eye liner. Skip the lower lash line.
Apply blush on the apples of your cheeks.
Apply red lipstick. I used Mary Kay Fire cracker
And you are done in 5 minutes!
This look is simple, chic and vintage. If you live a high stressed life, this is your go -to makeup.
As part of enjoying a luxury Christmas, which is what this month’s theme is all about –
Staying trim and fit this Christmas should be your priority. Christmas usually exposes us to way too much foods and with family and friends around for the holiday; and with complimentary happiness, we tend to over eat and stuff ourselves. This Christmas could be different if we adopt the habit of consuming healthy foods that can help keep us trim and aid weight loss. This post contains herbs and spices that I have used during my weight loss battles to stay healthy, trim and slimmer. However, I must warn that there are no short cuts to losing weight as successful weight losses usually entails a holistic approach of exercise, dieting, and lifestyle changes. When I was trying to lose tummy fat, I not only took some of these herbs and spices, but engaged in exercises as well. My favourite exercise till date is planking.
This post is meant to show you a much healthier, safer option to a trimmer body without engaging in extreme measures. Some of these herbs and spices that aid trimmer, slimmer body and weight loss in general are:
Cinnamon is a spice that I cannot do without as I have always used it in cooking. I use it to treat heart burn by making a drink of water and half tea spoon of cinnamon with honey. Once I drink this, I belch and the heartburn or indigestion is gone. Besides this benefit, cinnamon regulates blood sugar as well as lower cholesterol. All you need is half teaspoon of cinnamon and warm water. Pour the cinnamon into warm water, stir and drink.

Like cinnamon, cayenne pepper treats heart burn, indigestion and flatulence. It also helps the body burn excess fat, as well as reduce caloric intake as it reduces appetite for food.

Much like curry, turmeric has been found to regulate body fat thereby aiding weight loss. In some societies, people chew curry leaves for weight loss. Personally, I use turmeric as a skin care astringent and for treating common cold, as well as using is as food colouring.

Personally, I use ginger in treating cold and flu; and also in making drinks. However, studies have shown that eating ginger suppresses appetite, thereby aiding weight management.

According to studies, black pepper contains piperine, which blocks the formation of new fat tissues as well as burn calories. I personally use black pepper in treating cold and flu as well as use it in cooking.

Chickweed plays a significant role in weight management as it suppresses appetite. It can also be used to treat cough and skin rash.
I brew chickweed by boiling it fresh and drinking the water after it is cool.
Green teas contain catechin which lowers cholesterol and body fat. If you can’t handle caffein, go for decaffeinated green tea.
These herbs and spices are quiet common; but while you consume them, do exercise and cut down on fat inducing foods. Remember that you need exercise to tone your muscles and prevent flabby skin.
Hi guys, I am still sharing posts from this month’s E-zine – A luxury Christmas
I love lip glosses because they provide the much needed moisturizing and sheer for our lips. They come useful during day time when we need the makeup simple and natural. I have toyed with a variety of colours but these days, glassy lip glosses now catch my fancy and I am rocking them with pleasure.
I fell in love with Mary Kay Sugar & Cream lip gloss as it has a sheer gold that I love. Fair & White Sharon is a glassy rosy shade that is soft. Zaron Divanese is the odd one out – the one shade I never thought I would try – it is like silver.
And what better way to wear these lip glosses than matching it with a charming day time makeup that is simple but speaks enough volume to stand out.
For this look, I used:
Fair & white two way cake foundation
Fair & White pressed powder
And for the eyes, I lightly lined with Sleek Dip it blue eye liner for a touch of colour. By contouring with soft brown shadow, it made the eyes less plain.
I am still blogging about natural beauty and I am still very much inspired by the French makeup, which is natural, laid-back and chic. I love the fact that French girls dedicate an awful amount of time to nurturing their beautiful skin, as against using lots of makeup to mask imperfection, which is what a lot of people do. Within the past few weeks, I have been comparing Makeup on French girls with counterparts in the U.S. and elsewhere, and I must confess that I adore French makeup for its effortless chic and the casual way French girls wear it. I think we wear way too much makeup!
While makeup is meant to accentuate our natural beauty, we have turned it into flaws perfecting tools that mask aspects we would rather not see. This tend to scare girls who love simple, all natural makeup, believing that too much makeup is the only way. Well, no it is not!
If you love natural, simple and casual makeup, welcome to my world. Natural makeup makes one look way younger and for the mere fact that it is easier to put on, I recommend it for busy professionals or busy women.
Here is my guide to natural beauty – Pt II
Skin first! Nurture your skin above all things. If you have beautiful skin and nothing to mask, then it would be easier, faster and convenient to wear simple and casual makeup. I exfoliate day and night with sugar and turmeric. I have an oily skin that is prone to acne and breakout, so turmeric acts as my astringent and defense against free radicals.
I scrub my face and neck daily with sugar + turmeric scrub and on weekends, add body oil to polish my body. It is also essential that you eat well. For more on nutrients that nourish our skin, go to
Tone and moisturize!
I can not do without my Flori Roberts Enlighten perfect tone toner and moisturizer for oily skin as it gives me perfect complexion free of discolorations and acne. It is a natural skin lightening product range that provides even skin tone, which women of colors need.
Tame your brows
Well groomed eye brows frame our face so go to a specialist to have your brows trimmed and shaped monthly. This way, your brows are neat and easy to manage.
Concealers don’t just hide imperfections but brighten our complexion, especially dull eyes. You can do without foundation but you must not go without concealer, which you must apply under your eyes. Because I hardly use foundation, I always apply a little concealer under my eyes to keep my eyes fresh, bright and “awake” all day; I also apply concealer on my forehead and chin, which makes a simple but effective highlighting for me.
Tinted moisturizers are great if you do not wear foundation at all. They are moisturizers which are tinted to suit different skin shades but provide the much needed subtle sheer and coverage for natural, casual beauties. Mary Kay tinted moisturizers come in shades of Bronze 1 and Bronze 2 for women of color.
Choose a simple makeup regime
For a simple, all natural makeup, you can choose to use only foundation or pressed powder alone.
MAKEUP COMBINATIONS TO CHOOSE FROM:
1. You can choose to use tinted moisturizer with pressed powder and you are just good to go.
2. You can choose to use only cream to powder foundation formulations as the foundation turns to powder once it dries.
3. You can choose to use only liquid foundation as in Mary Kay medium coverage or Timewise foundation, which once dry, stays perfectly well without powder.
4. You can choose to use only luminous foundation as they give you a sheer, luminous glow that our skin needs. For example, Mary Kay luminous foundation
5. You can choose to use only pressed powder.
Why bronzer is a must
Bronzers are perfect for highlighting because they give a sheer highlight that slims our faces and make us look brighter. Always go for soft, light bronzing powders that do not shine too much because sheer is what we are going for. You use the bronzer by sweeping it lightly on your forehead, cheeks, the tip of your nose and chin.
Do not let blushes scare you
Blushes add to defining and slimming our face. I know hot pink and rosy cheeks scare people away; you need not go strong on blush either. Rather, go for natural looking shades that are accents of your complexion. Check out my guide on selecting shades of blush and how to use bronzers for highlighting.
BLUSH AND HIGHLIGHTING FOR DARK SKIN
BLUSH AND HIGHLIGHTING FOR MEDIUM SKIN
BLUSH AND HIGHLIGHTING FOR LIGHT SKIN
And on the eyes… Because my eyes are nude, I always rely on color eye pencils to line my eyes for a pop of color.
And my lips, I am still loving my red lipsticks – I have Mary Kay true dimensions Fire Crack, Flori Roberts Tomato and Revlon true color shades of red. I also have orange lipsticks and a variety of colours. It is totally up to you how you want your lips to be.
I hope this post helps. Please do share if this has helped you.
This is the concluding part of this month’s E-zine. I have been mighty busy so I couldn’t submit the posts on all of this month’s topics. Thank God, I am finally here.
I am a natural girl; I love my natural beauty so much that I devote more time to caring and nurturing my skin than do wear makeup. But I would not consider myself a plain Jane.
Plain Jane is the all natural girl who wears no makeup at all, has a laid -back sense of style and is probably clueless about makeup or totally being fashionable. Plain Jane is the simple girl – the girl -next – door a lot of guys grow to fall in love with. While your man may love your easy-going, predictable nature, there are quiet a number of reasons why some men love women with your kind of nature:
– You are truly a refreshing change from a world full of plastic girls.
– Your guy truly loves natural beauty.
– Your simplicity makes you easy to get a long with.
However, there are other reasons why men love simple minded Plain Janes:
– Your predictive nature makes it easy for your man to control and mould you into what he requires.
– Some men find you easy to manipulate.
– Some men think that your simplicity simply translates into your nature being easier to relate with, less complex, less complicity and less intimidating.
This however does not mean that you are weak, but this is how you are perceived by some men.
For a lot of men, too much makeup is a no-no; in fact, most men are averse to women who put themselves all out for them to see. Meaning, give them something to look forward too. So I say to myself, if men love the all natural women so much, why do they cheat on their women with material girls many years down the line? So the question goes: how does plain Jane lose her man to the material girl?
Material girls are street smart, wide eyed and know every trick in the book; where you might know nothing. You may think that your man loves you as simple as you are right? – I mean, he says that repeatedly. Then why does he lust after his sexy vixen colleague of a woman? Why? After all, he was meant to hate the false hair extensions, the false lashes, the false nails and the false God knows what! And oh, that made- up face with sexy smokey eyes luring him at office dinner parties. That is why when he can no longer resist the temptation, he would fall for her, and not only begin a wild adventurous relationship with her but put his marriage and your heart at risk as well.
So, you begin to ask yourself if he might have lied to you when he said he loved you just the way you are. But here is the truth:
Men care about your face, your hair, your nails, your fashion style and your overall grooming.
So, while you were busy being au natural and not taking care of yourself and appearance, some girl some where is spicing things up for him.
Here is the dish:
Because you know that your man loves the simple, all natural you, you have let yourself go. The predictability in you which he thought was a plus, has become boring. I know women who do not take time out to groom themselves properly, to look fashionable and trendy because they think that is what their man want.
But guess what? In so doing, you have not only become boring, predictable and plain, you have become unattractive.
I was raised tomboy, so I can relate with this topic quiet well. I know my husband loves the fact that I am a natural beauty but I also know that he is happy and proud when I am fashionably dressed and looking sexy. As a young girl, I thought I could never wear any shoes if there weren’t Adidas trainers.
I still love my Adidas; I speak about this shoe gushing with emotion and excitement because I could never divorce myself from these shoes. And just like Adidas, I love my skin. I spend good time and money nurturing my skin. As I grow older, I have come to appreciate the role good grooming and good fashion style plays in the business world. No longer am I laid -back and as I put in more care and attention into how I look, it has helped my marriage because I realized every man wants to be proud of his woman and wants to find her sexy.
It is so important that your man finds you sexy because if he no longer does, he will find sexy elsewhere.
So, am sure you might ask, how do I get sexy back?
– By being unpredictable. You have to shake up the routine sometimes Without informing him. Men are like kids; they love surprises. So instead of dinner at home, you can surprise him to a romantic dinner for two far away from home.
– Groom, groom, groom! Be like French girls – I adore them for their laid-back all natural makeup – and the signature red lips of course! And French girls can do this because a perfect skin is all important to them. Get your hair done regularly ; change your hair style from time to time too; your man is already tired of your predictable hair do! And take care of your skin. A well nurtured skin needs very little makeup and men love a natural glowing skin. Stop being cheap and go for spa treatment once in a while.
– Spice things up in the bedroom now! You know those sexy lingerie you think only bad girls wear? Guess what? Your man is secretly dreaming of it on material girl! No lie!
– Wear some makeup. Makeup is meant to accentuate your natural beauty; not replace it. Always go for light-weight luminous foundation for that glowing, sheer look. Play it safe with natural makeup.
– Move out of your comfort zone once in a while to drive your man crazy. Wear shoes with heels sometimes. Take it from an Adidas trainers loving girl like me, heels are sexy!
Don’t let this scare you; you can begin by wearing low to medium heels
Excuses you should get out of your head:
– Makeup is bad
– Sexy is bad
– I love comfort
– I don’t have the body for that
– I am not that confident
– It’s my nature
From one natural girl to another, a little push out of your comfort zone can turn your relationship around for the better.
Wanting natural beauty presents its own kind of responsibility because if you desire bare face all natural beauty, you must take care of your skin.
1. Eat right. Nutrition affects our skin so please eat a well balanced diet. Eat foods rich in vitamins A,C and E. Eat a lot of fruits, vegetables and drink lots of water.
2. Take care of your skin by using the right beauty products. Buy the right kind of moisturizer for your skin type and don’t keep experimenting with just about any beauty product. Stick with what works for you.
3. Always use sunscreen as it shields your skin from harmful sun rays. Always buy skincare and makeup products with SPF. Zaron makeup powders and foundation contain SPF 15.
4. Live a healthy lifestyle. By exercising and staying away from smoking and alcohol this will help your skin a lot.
5. When it comes to makeup, light is better. So always buy light weight oil-free mineral or water based makeup.
6. Keep your makeup simple, quick, easy but elegant.
I am still blogging about natural makeup, as part of this month’s online magazine – ‘Love me, naturally!’
For this post, I will be providing all natural makeup lovers with tips and products that they can use to enhance their natural beauty.
So, first tip:
The Perfect Eyebrows
Eyebrows frame the face and the eye is the window to the world, as such, your eye area must look “put together” at all times. And grooming your eyebrows is the first step. Get a beauty expert in your area to groom your eyebrows monthly. Once your brows are perfectly carved, you need not worry about filling. Just make sure you do not shave off the brow hair as finely groomed full eyebrows are way easier to maintain.
2. Buy the right makeup
Like I mentioned in my earlier post, you do not need foundation. Buy a good concealer and then pressed powder. If not, Use the concealer and Mary kay foundation, which does not need pressed powder.
You do not need pressed with either Mary Kay products.
Here are shades of blush Africans can wear:
If you are dark or black, this is the right foundation shade with dark people.
creamy lip pencil and lip lip glosses are great for the skin.
If you are one of those people who love natural makeup, then welcome to the club. I have met quiet a number of ladies who are intimidated by loud, bold makeup and as such, do stay away from makeup completely. I tell ladies, that makeup should enhance your natural beauty and not make you look false, masked or “made-up”. The natural, the better as light weight makeup gives a flawless, youthful look that excessive, caked-up makeup cannot give.
Do not go around wearing a naked, dull, plain face that exposes all the shine on your face all in the name of natural beauty when you can achieve natural beauty with the right makeup. This is what we all refer to as the “no-makeup makeup”. Bottom line, you must look bright at all times, and not be another forgettable and uninteresting face that no one wants to give a second look. The makeup tip I am providing here is simple, quick and easy.
Rule no. 1:
Be true to yourself. Do not try to change to please any one. The fact that you want hassle free natural makeup does not mean that is not good enough, when in fact, you are perfect!
So here are some very simple steps:
For this look, you do not need both foundation and powder but just one of it.
If you have dry or normal skin, Any cream to powder foundation is perfect Or Mary Kay medium coverage foundation.
If you have oily skin, pressed powder is just perfect.
Secondly, you will need a concealer of your shade
3, Creamy lip pencil
4, Lip gloss
5, Eye pencil (optional)
6, Blush (optional)
8, Natural (nude) eye shadow.
Here I am before makeup:
After cleaning your face, apply moisturizer and makeup base to create the perfect canvass and to keep shine away, if you have oily skin.
Next, apply concealer under the eyes, around your mouth area and forehead And your chin. This helps hide any discoloration or acne you might have as well as brighten your eyes and face in general.
Next, apply pressed powder all over the face.
Get a natural shade of eye shadow and apply on the eye lids. For most Africans, any shade of brown eyeshadow will do.
Line your eyes thin and soft with eye pencil or liner. Apply mascara.
Apply blush. For a lot of ladies who love natural makeup, blush seems like a no-no to them but I must say that blush mustn’t be another dash of color on the face – don’t be terrified by hot pink blushes or loud hues of wine blushes that put you off immediately. These days, blush does more than put color on our cheeks, they define our face by narrowing it and creating the perfect accent on our cheeks. So, if you are to buy a blush, buy a natural tanned version of your complexion, which instantly slims your face and creates a soft, natural blend.
for the lips, use a creamy lip pencil in your favourite colour, preferably soft brown and apply all over your lips for perfect coverage and long lasting colour. Top it with a natural or nude lip gloss.
how are you doing? Looking and feeling beautiful, I bet! Am happy to be back to blogging as I have been experiencing writer’s block; hence my late submission. I have been very busy conducting training sessions that it sapped my brain out. Well, I am taking it easy this month and treating concerns of natural beauty and natural makeup. While I adore makeup, I believe in natural looking makeup that is flawless and light weight. Over the course of my career, I have met countless women, who loved the simple ness of the natural look so much that they have had to avoid wearing makeup completely. Well, I can say to you that you can still wear makeup while looking natural.
in this month’s issue as well, I am writing some home truths about how our style affects our relationship, especially with the significant other and why some of us might be afraid of the truth, hence; the topic ‘When plain Jane loses her man to the material girl’ It makes fun reading.
